Conference “Innovations in the organic horticultural production” – SPIN-FERT project Horizon Europe
October 24 @ 10:00 am
Institute of Horticulture, Skierniewice, Poland
SPIN-FERT is introduced to Polish horticultural professionals
On 24 October 2024, the SPIN-FERT project was introduced to about 400 professional operators (farmers, agricultural advisors and researchers) during the conference “Innovations in the organic horticultural production” that was held at the National Institute of Horticultural Research. Dr hab. Małgorzata Tartanus highlighted the aim of the project and the various innovations planned to be developed, among which can be mentioned the innovative protocols for the production of peat-free substrates formulated with microbial strains and/or humic extracts, or various tools also exploiting AI, including an automated robot for the analysis of soil biodiversity, an e-nose to assess soil microbial activity and a soil quality index combining physical, chemical and biological parameters. The SPIN-FERT effort in economic, social and environmental assessments of peat-free substrates and soil management practices was mentioned as a way to promote wide adoption by professionals (farmers and manufacturers) and common citizens (gardeners). Finally, the innovative approach to communication and dissemination, exploiting new technologies and visual artworks was also shown through the Memory Nexus workshop. The on-site attendees (about 80 persons) had also the possibility of experiencing the “Senses of Soil”, an exhibition showing how the five human senses can be energized by the different properties of the soil.
The conference, beside being launched on INHORT website, was also previously advertised by the Polish National Center for Research and Development (NCBR) social media.
