DESCRIPTION:Nantes\, France \n\n\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nThis week\, the SPIN-FERT consortium gathered in Nantes\, France\, for the General Assembly hosted by consortium partner CTIFL. Over three intensive days\, researchers\, industry partners\, growers\, and innovation experts from across Europe came together to review progress\, share results\, and plan the next steps toward healthier soils and peat-free horticulture.  \n\n\n\nThe meeting brought together all SPIN-FERT work packages\, covering:🔬 Development of innovative biostimulants and peat-free substrates🌱 Demonstration of sustainable soil management practices in horticultural systems📊 Advanced tools for rapid soil quality assessment🌍 Soil biodiversity and ecosystem services for policy support📣 Communication\, dissemination\, training\, and stakeholder engagement♻️ Sustainability assessment of innovative products and cropping systems  \n\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\n\nThe General Assembly also included discussions with the European Commission Project Officer\, opportunities for collaboration with other Mission Soil initiatives\, and a visit to CTIFL field trials\, which provided valuable insights into practical implementation and demonstration activities.  \n\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\n\nA big thank you to CTIFL for hosting this inspiring meeting and to all consortium partners for their continued commitment to building a more sustainable future for European horticulture. DESCRIPTION:ZAK Centre for Contemporary Art in Berlin \n\n\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nORCH’IDEA Premieres in Berlin \n\n\n\nDeveloped within the framework of the SPIN-FERT\, the immersive interactive installation ORCH’IDEA demonstrates how artistic research can communicate complex scientific and environmental challenges to broad public audiences. Created by Joanna Hoffmann (FASSF-ASN)  in collaboration with Andre Bartetzki (sound\, light\, programming) and Norberto Hernandez (programming)\, ORCH’IDEA transforms the delicate life cycle of an imaginative orchid into a collective interactive journey. Participants cooperate to guide the orchid through three essential stages—nutrition\, energy acquisition\, and pollination—experiencing first-hand the interdependence between plants\, soil microorganisms\, insects\, climate\, and human actions. \n\n\n\nRather than presenting ecological challenges as abstract scientific concepts\, ORCH’IDEA enables visitors to experience how healthy ecosystems depend on cooperation and to illustrate the risks posed by soil degradation\, climate change\, and the loss of ecosystem services. \n\n\n\nBy combining interactive technologies\, immersive audiovisual environments\, and scientific knowledge\, ORCH’IDEA exemplifies SPIN-FERT’s commitment to innovative science communication and public engagement. The installation encourages visitors to reflect on how sustainable soil management contributes not only to agricultural productivity but also to the resilience of entire ecosystems. \n\n\n\nPresented within the international exhibition Bedrohung / Zagrożenie / Menace\, ORCH’IDEA reaches audiences beyond the scientific community\, fostering dialogue between research\, art\, and society.
